Over seventy years ago, Country Life Books published High Street, a children's book of shops featuring twenty-four exquisite lithographs by the English artist Eric Ravilious (1903-1942). Although the book was not a limited edition, the destruction of the lithographic plates during the Blitz meant that only 2000 copies were ever printed. Subsequently High Street has become one of the most highly-prized artist's books of its time.
Here's a selection of the original lithographs, printed at The Curwen Press in 1938 (and not to be confused with the modern digital/giclée reproductions in circulation).
Historically, book sellers would remove the lithographs and sell individually (we sourced this current selection of lithographs from a specialist book seller).
Due to the scarcity of the book and the increased interest in Ravilious' work, the High Street book is generally sold in its entire published form.
We'll be shipping these original 1938 lithographs early-mid September. They are currently being window-mounted.
