Painter/printmaker Michael Kirkman will be exhibiting a selection of recent paintings, drawings and prints in London next weekend in an exhibition entitled 'A Given Time'.
The opening event is from 5-9pm on 26th November and the exhibition will then be open from 27-29th November from 10am until 5pm. Visit Michael's website for full address details.

Moku-hanga
As part of my curation of The Masters - Relief Prints at The Bankside Gallery I was pleased to see a number of prints made using the moku-hanga technique. Unlike many relief printmaking methods which make use of oil-based inks, this traditional Japanese woodblock printmaking technique uses water-based inks which are applied to the cut wooden block. Handmade Japanese paper is then placed onto the block which is then hand burnished using a baren.
Below are prints from two artists who make use of the technique in their work.
Paul Furneaux is based in Scotland and exhibits his prints globally. His website includes some excellent notes about his approach to the moku hanga technique.
Born in Osaka, Japan, Nana Shiomi studied oil painting and printmaking at the Tama Art University (BA, MA), Tokyo. Shiomi came to London to study contemporary art and received an MA in printmaking from the Royal College of Art in 1991.

The Masters – Relief Prints
Many thanks to everyone who came along to the opening of The Masters - Relief Prints, the first in a series of technique-specific annual exhibitions presented by the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers.
I've had the honour of curating this event which runs until the 15th of November 2015 at The Bankside Gallery, next to Tate Modern.
Thanks to all of the artists who have made the exhibition possible. The quality of work submitted was impressive and it was a very tough job narrowing down the selection of works exhibited from over 1,100 submitted prints - the exhibition features around 160 works by 150 artists. Below are a few images illustrating the diversity of the work on show.

We're pleased to share this video that accompanies an edit of one of the tracks that appears on our forthcoming Random Spectacular project.
Harbour Fireworks is taken from Concrete Antenna, a sound installation and 12" deluxe vinyl album package exploring the past, present and imagined future of Newhaven in Edinburgh. Much of the sonic palette for this track is derived from recordings of firework displays in the area. Find out more about the track.
Mark Hearld’s Winter
Mark Hearld has just designed a couple of new pieces for Art Angels - a flying robin and a new winter inspired die-cut menagerie featuring hares, ptarmigans and a stoat in winter. Keep an eye out for these cards in shops in the coming weeks.
We'll soon be starting work on a Random Spectacular project dedicate to Mark's exhibition in York, The Lumber Room - Unimagined Treasures.

Jonny Hannah cut-out cards
As part of his forthcoming exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, our friends at Art Angels have produced three cards based on Jonny Hannah's work.
Jonny has adapted three of his prints - 'Mare Vivimus', 'Fyret' and 'All Aboard the George Bennie' - to produce these die-cut cards. Also launching at the exhibition is Jonny's 2016 'The Captain's Calendar'.
'Main Street' will run from 14th November 2015 until 28th February 2016 at Yorkshire Sculpture Park and visitors will be invited to take a stroll down Hannah’s vintage-inspired homage to the independent trader.
